Captain Royal discovers Frank and Joe in his cave, accuses them of stealing, and threatens them with a loaded double-barreled shotgun. The boys struggle to escape as the captain, in a mad rage, chases them. Frank distracts him while Joe tries to flee, but Joe returns to help. The chapter ends with Captain Royal firing the shotgun at Frank.
