What happens
Frank and Joe Hardy pursue a motorboat they suspect belongs to the kidnappers, but lose it as it speeds toward the mainland. They circle Blacksnake Island, observing dangerous blacksnakes in the swampy areas, and eventually land to search for Chet and Biff. They find evidence of a recent campsite and a trail leading inland. While following the trail, Frank nearly steps on a large blacksnake and fires his revolver, but the snake prepares to strike. Joe grabs a heavy stick to help, and the chapter ends with the boys in peril.
