What happens
John Platt, junior partner of Navarro & Platt from Cactus City, Texas, travels to New York to buy goods for the spring season. He meets suit model Helen Asher and immediately proposes marriage, offering a diamond ring. Miss Asher, accustomed to advances from buyers, rebuffs him scornfully. After a dinner, Platt reveals a wedding ring, not a diamond, and she realizes his intentions were genuine. The chapter ends with Miss Asher excitedly planning to go with him to Cactus City.
