What happens
Garth leads his party through a hellish day in the Venusian jungle, battling camouflaged lizards and bloodsucker plants while the Noctoli poison claims most of his companions, including Paula and Sampson. By nightfall only Garth remains conscious, and he discovers a black temple where he encounters the Zarno—silicate beings who guard the house of the gods. They recognize him from a previous visit and capture him and his helpless party.
