What happens
Jerry Vanning, an Earth state investigator, arrives on Venus in pursuit of the political refugee Don Callahan. Despite warnings from Consul Goodenow about the planet's dangers, including the mysterious North-Fever that drives victims northward to their deaths, Vanning identifies Callahan's disguise. Soon after, Vanning himself contracts the North-Fever and is compelled to journey north through the jungle, eventually collapsing in a pit after passing through a rock curtain.
