What happens
Nils Holgersson returns to his family farm in Skåne, now restored to human form. He overhears his parents' sorrow and love for him, and after a visit from Osa and her father Jon Esserson, who praise Nils's help, his parents regain hope. Nils rescues Morten Goosey-Gander and Dunfin from being killed, revealing himself to his overjoyed parents. The chapter also includes Nils's farewell to Akka, who asks him to remember the wild animals' need for refuge.
