What happens
Karr the dog, now living with a gamekeeper, abandons his forbidden forest chases out of love for his master. He befriends Grayskin, a captive elk calf, and nurtures him for five years. When Grayskin is sold to a zoo, Karr tricks him into escaping his pen to explore the forest, showing him the pines, marsh, leaf-trees, and a lake. Grayskin encounters a wild elk bull, fights and defeats him, then chooses to remain in the forest rather than return to captivity.
