Ralph visits Clement's house and learns from a carle that the enemy has entered Upmeads but is unaware of the Shepherds and Dry Tree. He prepares his men for battle the next morning. Later, he meets Katherine, who joyfully embraces him. Ralph recounts his journeys briefly, and then asks Katherine about the beads that led him to the Well at the World's End.
