What happens
Tommy Stubbins awakens alone on a piece of wreckage from the Curlew, stranded at sea after the storm. He cuts himself free, battles fear and loneliness, and is eventually found by Miranda, the Purple Bird-of-Paradise, who leads him to the Doctor and the others on the other half of the ship. The chapter ends with the two halves reuniting, and Tommy sees Doctor Dolittle shaving by moonlight.
