The narrator reflects on the general disbelief in the Time Machine among the dinner guests. A week later, the group gathers again, and the Time Traveller arrives late, disheveled and exhausted, with a cut on his chin and tattered, bloodstained socks. After eating and composing himself, he agrees to tell his story, insisting on no interruptions, and begins to recount his journey through time.
