What happens
After Christine Daaé's disappearance following her performance, Raoul de Chagny grows increasingly anxious and seeks answers. He visits the Opera managers, who are evasive, and then goes to Mamma Valérius, who reveals that Christine is with her 'Angel of Music' and cannot marry because the angel forbids it. Later, Raoul spots Christine in a brougham on a lonely road, but she ignores his calls. He then receives a letter from Christine instructing him to meet her at a masked ball.
