What happens
Mary Bewery learns that gossip about Dr. Ransford is spreading in Wrychester. During lunch, Dick Bewery tells Ransford that townspeople believe Braden visited him before his death. Ransford denies it. Later, Mary and Ransford eavesdrop from behind a curtain as Bryce speaks with Inspector Mitchington. Bryce lies about Braden's visit, claiming he only asked for directions. Mitchington reveals that a mason's labourer named Collishaw may know something about the murder and that Braden left the Mitre alone for two hours on the night of his arrival.
