What happens
The colonists complete the rigging of their launch, the Good Luck, and Pencroff adds a star for the 'State of Lincoln' to their flag. After a week of cold weather, a pack of foxes invades the shore via an open causeway, threatening Prospect Plateau. The colonists fight them off in a two-hour battle, but Jup is severely wounded. They nurse him back to health. Later, during a trial trip of the launch, Herbert discovers a bottle containing a message from a shipwrecked man on Tabor Island.
