What happens
Hastings delivers Poirot's cryptic message about the extra coffee-cup to Lawrence, who professes ignorance. At lunch, Poirot questions Mary and Lawrence about whether the door from Cynthia's room to Mrs. Inglethorp's was bolted or locked. Later, Hastings and John discuss the possibility that Dr. Bauerstein poisoned Mrs. Inglethorp, with Hastings suggesting Bauerstein could have substituted a clean cocoa sample for analysis.
