What happens
Germain encounters the farmer of Ormeaux while searching for Marie and Petit-Pierre. The farmer attempts to bribe Marie into silence, but she publicly rejects him. Germain physically overpowers the farmer and forces him to apologize. Later, Germain meets an old woman at the Devil's Pool who tells him superstitious tales about the forest, but he eventually reunites with Marie and Petit-Pierre.
