Simon Ford's Experiment explained

James Starr, Simon Ford, and Harry Ford venture deep into the Dochart pit to investigate Simon's claim of a new coal seam.

What happens

James Starr, Simon Ford, and Harry Ford venture deep into the Dochart pit to investigate Simon's claim of a new coal seam. Simon explains his detection of firedamp, a sign of coal, and recounts the old 'monk' method of dispersing the gas. At the end of the gallery, they attempt to demonstrate the gas but find the cracks in the rock have been recently sealed with lime. Harry concludes that a mysterious being—the same who sent the warning letter and threw a stone—has deliberately obstructed the fissures, confirming sabotage.
