What happens
K. learns that Frieda has left him for Jeremiah, who taunts him about his visit to the Barnabas sisters. Barnabas arrives with news that Erlanger, one of Klamm's secretaries, wants to see K. immediately at the Herrenhof. K. chases after Jeremiah, who is heading to the inn, and they exchange bitter words about Frieda and their past as master and servant.
