Chapter 1
Act I

Chapter 2
Act II
In Act II, the priest Rensei performs all-night rites for the dead, praying for Atsumori's salvation. The ghost of Atsumori appears, dressed as a young warrior, and reveals his identity. He recounts the fall of the Taira clan, their brief prosperity, and their defeat at the battle of Ichi-no-Tani. Atsumori describes the night before the battle, the music and dancing, and his death at the hands of Kumagai. He initially advances to strike the priest but, recognizing Rensei's compassion and the power of prayer, forgives him and asks for continued prayers for his salvation.
