What happens
Mr. May returns home from the Hall in a strange, dreamy state. At home, an evening gathering with Ursula, Phoebe, Northcote, Reginald, and Janey is interrupted when Mr. May suffers a mysterious collapse after reading a note from Cotsdean. He is found on the floor, pale and clutching the paper, and asks to be taken away, especially from Phoebe's sight.
