Marfa Strogoff is interrogated by Ivan Ogareff after being seen recognizing her son at the posting-house. She bravely denies that the young man was Michael Strogoff, even under threat of torture. Meanwhile, Michael recovers in a muzhik's hut after being wounded and learns that Nadia has been captured and taken to Tomsk. Despite his weakness, he insists on continuing his mission and goes to Omsk, where he glimpses Ivan Ogareff and realizes the traitor is the same man he encountered earlier.
