What happens
Mr. Byrd, while at a hotel, overhears a young man describe a dramatic encounter between a lady and a gentleman at the Syracuse depot. The lady, who matches Imogene Dare's description, and the man recoil from each other in mutual horror. Byrd, using his sketching talent, draws the scene from the witness's description, capturing the lady's likeness perfectly but struggling with the man's face. He decides to keep the sketch and vows to leave Sibley soon.
