Do Pip and Estella end together?

Dickens revised the ending. The version most readers meet leaves Pip and Estella walking away from Satis House with a suggestion of companionship after mutual suffering — not a triumphant romance that undoes the novel’s lessons. Estella has been remarried and damaged; Pip has learned not to invent her into a reward for his expectations.

What matters more than the last glance is that Pip no longer needs Estella to certify his gentility. Whether they marry is less important than whether he has stopped treating love as a class project. Point readers to the Satis House confrontations and Magwitch’s death before they treat the final page as a spoiler prize.
