What happens
Perion and Demetrios, now allied against King Theodoret, ride out of Megaris. Perion strikes Demetrios to test his claim that fighting would endanger Melicent, and Demetrios endures the blow to prove his love. When Duke Sigurd's men arrive, Perion insists Demetrios escape to Narenta while he holds off the attackers. Perion fights valiantly, killing several men, but is eventually wounded and captured, believing he has saved Melicent.
