William Morris

William Morris (1834–1896) was a prolific English writer, artist, and socialist activist, best known for his poetry, fantasy novels, and role in the Arts and Crafts Movement. Educated at Oxford, he was deeply influenced by medieval literature and architecture, which shaped his literary works such as The Earthly Paradise (1868–1870) and the utopian novel News from Nowhere (1890). His later fantasy, The Sundering Flood, exemplifies his fusion of Norse saga elements with romantic adventure. Morris also founded the Kelmscott Press, producing finely crafted books that revived traditional printing. His literary legacy lies in pioneering modern fantasy and integrating aesthetic beauty with social critique, influencing writers like J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis.
