Ursula K. Le Guin

Ursula K. Le Guin (1929–2018) was a celebrated American author whose work transcended genre boundaries, blending science fiction, fantasy, and literary fiction. Born in Berkeley, California, she was the daughter of anthropologist Alfred Kroeber and writer Theodora Kroeber. Le Guin gained prominence with the Earthsea series, beginning with A Wizard of Earthsea (1968), and her Hainish Cycle, which includes The Left Hand of Darkness (1969) and The Dispossessed (1974). These works explore themes of gender, politics, and ecology, challenging conventional narratives. Her innovative use of speculative fiction to examine social structures earned her numerous Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Awards.
