Saki

Hector Hugh Munro, who wrote under the pen name Saki, was born in Burma in 1870 and raised in England by strict aunts after his mother's death. He served as a police officer in Burma before returning to London to work as a journalist and political satirist. Saki is best known for his short stories, collected in volumes such as "Reginald" (1904), "The Chronicles of Clovis" (1911), and "Beasts and Super-Beasts" (1914). His tales blend dark humor, irony, and the supernatural, often featuring precocious children, talking animals, and sharp critiques of Edwardian conventions. Saki's literary legacy endures through his masterful use of the twist ending and his influence on later writers of the macabre. He volunteered for the British Army in World War I and was killed in action in France in 1916.
