Rohinton Mistry

Rohinton Mistry was born in 1952 in Mumbai, India, and emigrated to Canada in 1975. He is best known for his novels set in India, particularly A Fine Balance (1995), which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and won the Giller Prize. His other major works include Such a Long Journey (1991), which won the Commonwealth Writers' Prize, and Family Matters (2002). Mistry's writing is noted for its compassionate, detailed realism and its exploration of social injustice, family dynamics, and the struggles of ordinary people against political upheaval. He is widely regarded as one of the most important contemporary authors of the Indian diaspora, with his work often compared to that of Charles Dickens for its breadth and humanism.
