Poul Anderson

Poul Anderson (1926–2001) was a towering figure in American science fiction and fantasy, publishing over 100 novels and numerous short stories. Born in Pennsylvania to Scandinavian immigrant parents, he earned a degree in physics from the University of Minnesota, which informed his rigorous approach to hard science fiction. His major works include the Technic Civilization series featuring Nicholas van Rijn and Dominic Flandry, the time-travel novel "The Time Patrol," and the fantasy classic "The Broken Sword." Anderson won seven Hugo Awards and three Nebula Awards, including for the novel "Tau Zero" and the story "The Sharing of Flesh." He also wrote historical fiction, such as "The Last Viking" trilogy, and mysteries. A master of both epic space opera and intimate character studies, Anderson's legacy lies in his seamless blending of scientific plausibility with mythic storytelling, influencing generations of writers in speculative fiction.
