Philip Gibbs

Sir Philip Gibbs (1877–1969) was an English journalist and novelist who gained prominence as one of the few officially accredited war correspondents on the Western Front during World War I. His most famous work, "Now It Can Be Told" (1920), broke the censorship of the war years to deliver a harrowing, unflinching account of the horrors endured by soldiers in the trenches. Gibbs wrote numerous other books, including novels and historical works, often focusing on the human cost of conflict. He was knighted in 1920 for his services to journalism and literature. His legacy rests on his pioneering role in war reporting, blending journalistic integrity with literary craft to shape public understanding of modern warfare.
