Paul Dukes

Paul Dukes (1889–1967) was an English writer and intelligence officer who served as a British spy in revolutionary Russia. Fluent in Russian, he operated undercover in Petrograd and Moscow, gathering crucial information for the British government. After the revolution, he escaped Russia and documented his experiences in his most famous work, "Red Dusk and the Morrow" (1922), which provides a vivid, personal narrative of the Bolshevik takeover and its immediate aftermath. Dukes was knighted for his wartime service and later wrote several other books on Russia and espionage. His literary legacy rests on his eyewitness accounts, which remain valuable historical sources for understanding the chaos and ideology of the early Soviet period.
