Mignon G. Eberhart

Mignon Good Eberhart was born on July 6, 1899, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She began writing while working as a secretary, and her first novel, "The Patient in Room 18" (1929), introduced nurse-detective Sarah Keate, a character who appeared in several of her early works. Eberhart became one of the most popular mystery writers of the mid-20th century, publishing over 60 novels and numerous short stories. Her books, often set in atmospheric mansions or hospitals, combined suspense with romance and were praised for their intricate plotting. She won the Mystery Writers of America's Grand Master Award in 1971. Eberhart's work influenced the development of the domestic suspense and cozy mystery subgenres, and she remained a steady bestseller for decades. She died on September 8, 1996, in Greenwich, Connecticut.
