M. R. James

Montague Rhodes James (1862–1936) was an English author, medievalist scholar, and provost of Eton College and King's College, Cambridge. He is best known for his ghost stories, which redefined the genre by replacing Gothic melodrama with a subtle, intellectual terror rooted in antiquarian settings. His major collections include "Ghost Stories of an Antiquary" (1904), "More Ghost Stories" (1911), and "A Thin Ghost and Others" (1919).
