Lord Dunsany

Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, 18th Baron of Dunsany (1878–1957), was an Anglo-Irish writer and dramatist whose fantastical short stories and plays helped shape early 20th-century fantasy literature. Drawing on Irish folklore, classical mythology, and his own vivid imagination, he created the imaginary realm of Pegāna in works like The Gods of Pegāna (1905) and Time and the Gods (1906). His collections The Book of Wonder (1912) and Fifty-One Tales (1915) showcased his distinctive blend of whimsy, melancholy, and cosmic irony. Dunsany also wrote successful plays, including The Glittering Gate (1909), and the novel The Charwoman's Shadow (1926). A major influence on H.P. Lovecraft, Jorge Luis Borges, and later fantasy writers, Dunsany was celebrated for his lyrical prose and ability to evoke otherworldly realms. He served in both World Wars and remained a prolific author until his death in 1957.
