John T. McIntyre

John T. McIntyre (1871–1951) was an American novelist, short story writer, and playwright, best remembered for his series of detective stories featuring the brilliant investigator Ashton-Kirk. Born in Philadelphia, McIntyre began his career as a journalist before turning to fiction. His Ashton-Kirk tales, collected in volumes such as "Ashton-Kirk, Investigator" (1910), were among the early examples of the scientific detective subgenre, predating many later forensic-focused series. McIntyre also wrote historical romances and adventure novels, but his detective work remains his most enduring contribution to popular literature. Though his fame has faded, his methodical, clue-driven narratives helped shape the American detective story tradition.
