Herminie Templeton Kavanagh

Herminie Templeton Kavanagh (1861–1933) was an Irish-American writer born in County Dublin, Ireland, who later emigrated to the United States. She is best remembered for her 1903 collection Darby O'Gill and the Good People, a series of charming tales blending Irish mythology with humor and adventure. The book introduced the mischievous leprechauns and the wise, storytelling Darby O'Gill, capturing the spirit of Irish oral tradition. Kavanagh's work gained renewed fame when adapted into the 1959 Disney film Darby O'Gill and the Little People. Though she wrote other stories and plays, her legacy rests on this single volume, which remains a beloved classic of Celtic fantasy and helped shape modern perceptions of Irish folklore in popular culture.
