Harry Harrison

Harry Harrison (1925-2012) was a prolific American science fiction writer, best known for his humorous and satirical works. Born Henry Maxwell Dempsey in Stamford, Connecticut, he began his career as a comic book artist and editor before turning to writing. His breakthrough came with the novel "Deathworld" (1960) and its sequels, which explored themes of environmental adaptation and conflict. Harrison's most famous creation is the Stainless Steel Rat series, featuring the charming criminal Slippery Jim diGriz, blending heist adventure with social commentary. He also wrote the classic "Make Room! Make Room!" (1966), which inspired the film "Soylent Green." Harrison's work often critiqued overpopulation, militarism, and bureaucracy, using wit and fast-paced plots.
