Georgette Heyer (1902–1974) was an English novelist best known for her historical romances set in the Regency era. She published her first novel, The Black Moth, at age 19, and went on to write over 50 books. Heyer's works, including Beauvallet and Simon the Coldheart, are noted for their meticulous period detail, sharp social observation, and sparkling dialogue. She also wrote a series of well-regarded detective novels. Though she never achieved the literary acclaim of some contemporaries, Heyer's influence on the romance genre is immense; she established many of its conventions and remains widely read.
