Fritz Leiber

Fritz Leiber (1910-1992) was a highly influential American writer whose career spanned over five decades. Born in Chicago, he was the son of Shakespearean actors and initially pursued acting and chess before turning to writing. Leiber made his mark with the creation of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, a seminal sword-and-sorcery series that redefined the genre. His science fiction novel "The Big Time" (1958) won the Hugo Award for Best Novel, exploring a war across time. Leiber also wrote acclaimed horror, including "Conjure Wife" and "Our Lady of Darkness," and won multiple Hugo and Nebula Awards for his short fiction. His work is noted for its literary sophistication, psychological depth, and influence on later writers like Michael Moorcock and Ursula K. Le Guin.
