Frederik Pohl

Frederik Pohl (1919-2013) was a central figure in American science fiction, active as a writer, editor, and fan from the genre's Golden Age through the late 20th century. He began publishing in the 1930s and became a leading editor of Galaxy and If magazines, helping shape the field. His major novels include "Gateway" (1977), which won the Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Awards, and its sequels in the Heechee Saga. Pohl also collaborated with Cyril M. Kornbluth on classic satires like "The Space Merchants" (1952). His work often explored social satire, technology's impact, and human psychology. Pohl received the Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award in 1993. His literary legacy lies in his sharp, thought-provoking narratives that expanded science fiction's thematic range.
