Ernest Thompson Seton

Born in South Shields, England, in 1860, Ernest Thompson Seton emigrated to Canada as a youth and later became a leading figure in the American naturalist movement. Trained as an artist and naturalist, he combined scientific observation with narrative flair in his books. Wild Animals I Have Known (1898) introduced readers to unforgettable characters like Lobo the wolf and Raggylug the rabbit, portraying animals as individuals with intelligence and emotion. Seton was a co-founder of the Boy Scouts of America and wrote extensively on woodcraft and wildlife. His literary legacy lies in his influence on later nature writers and his role in popularizing conservation ethics through vivid, unsentimental storytelling.
