Charles A. Lindbergh

Charles Augustus Lindbergh (1902–1974) was an American aviator, author, and conservationist who achieved international fame as the first person to fly solo nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean. His 1927 flight from New York to Paris in the Spirit of St. Louis made him a global hero. Lindbergh's only major literary work, "We" (1927), is a straightforward memoir detailing his early flying experiences, the preparation for his historic flight, and the journey itself. Written with the assistance of journalist Fitzhugh Green, the book's title refers to the partnership between pilot and aircraft. While Lindbergh's later life included controversial political views and significant contributions to aviation technology and environmental conservation, his literary legacy rests on "We" as a primary document of early aviation history.
