Arundhati Roy

Arundhati Roy was born on November 24, 1961, in Shillong, India. She studied architecture at the School of Planning and Architecture in Delhi before turning to writing and screenwriting. Her first novel, The God of Small Things (1997), a semi-autobiographical story of family secrets and caste oppression in Kerala, won the Booker Prize and became an international bestseller. Roy has since focused on nonfiction essays and activism, addressing issues such as globalization, environmental justice, and human rights in works like The Algebra of Infinite Justice and The Ministry of Utmost Happiness (2017), her second novel. Her literary legacy is defined by her incisive social commentary and her ability to weave personal narratives with broader political struggles.
