Anne Parrish

Anne Parrish was born in 1888 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and grew up in a cultured family that encouraged her literary ambitions. She published her first novel, The Pocketful of Poses, in 1923, but it was her second novel, The Perennial Bachelor (1925), that brought her widespread acclaim, winning the prestigious Harper Prize. Parrish wrote over a dozen novels, including The Methodist Faun (1929) and Golden Wedding (1934), as well as several children's books, such as The Dream Coach (1924), which she co-authored with her brother. Her work often explored themes of social class, family dynamics, and the inner lives of women, marked by a subtle irony and a compassionate yet unsentimental eye. Though her reputation faded after her death in 1957, she is remembered as a significant voice of the American realist tradition, bridging the genteel novel and modern psychological fiction.
