Andre Norton

Andre Norton (born Alice Mary Norton, 1912–2005) was a prolific American author who helped shape modern science fiction and fantasy. She began writing in the 1930s, but her career flourished in the 1950s with novels like Star Man's Son and The Time Traders. Norton was among the first women to gain prominence in the male-dominated SF field, often writing under the androgynous pseudonym 'Andre Norton' to avoid gender bias. Her series include the Witch World saga, the Solar Queen adventures (including Plague Ship), and the Time Traders sequence (Key Out of Time, The Defiant Agents). She also wrote historical fiction and fantasy for young adults. Norton received numerous honors, including the Gandalf Grand Master Award and the Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. Her legacy endures through her imaginative worlds and her mentorship of other writers.
