Ameen Rihani

Ameen Rihani (1876–1940) was a Lebanese-American author, poet, and intellectual who played a foundational role in Arab-American literature. Born in Freike, Lebanon, he emigrated to New York as a child, where he was exposed to both Arabic and English literary traditions. Rihani is celebrated for his poetry, which often explores themes of nature, spirituality, and cultural synthesis. His major works include the poetry collection "Hutaf al-Awdiyah" (The Chant of Valleys) and the novel "The Book of Khalid," considered the first English-language novel by an Arab-American writer. Rihani's literary legacy lies in his pioneering efforts to bridge Arab and Western cultures, influencing later generations of diaspora writers. He also wrote extensively on philosophy and travel, advocating for Arab nationalism and cross-cultural understanding.
