Algis Budrys

Algis Budrys (1931–2008) was born in Königsberg, East Prussia, to Lithuanian parents and emigrated to the United States as a child. He became a prominent figure in mid-20th-century science fiction, publishing influential novels such as Rogue Moon (1960) and Who? (1958), which examine the boundaries of identity and the impact of advanced technology on the human psyche. Budrys also wrote the classic story collection The Unexpected Dimension and served as a perceptive critic and editor, notably for The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction and later as a writing teacher. His work is noted for its psychological depth, narrative precision, and exploration of existential themes, earning him a lasting place in the genre’s literary canon.
