Alan Sullivan

Alan Sullivan (1868–1947) was a Canadian author and mining engineer whose literary career spanned poetry, novels, and short stories. Born in Montreal, he studied at the University of Toronto and later worked extensively in mining, which informed the adventurous and often remote settings of his fiction. His most enduring work, The Jade God (1925), is a mystery novel that incorporates supernatural themes and a Chinese artifact, showcasing his talent for blending genres. Sullivan also published several volumes of poetry, including The White Canoe (1891), and other novels such as The Rapids (1922). Though not a major figure in the literary canon, his contributions to early 20th-century Canadian genre fiction are recognized for their atmospheric storytelling and cross-cultural elements.
