Largely self-educated, he became a leading voice in evangelical spirituality, serving as pastor of Southside Alliance Church in Chicago for over 30 years. His most famous work, The Pursuit of God (1948), is a devotional classic that calls believers to a deeper, more personal relationship with God, emphasizing divine transcendence and inward holiness. Tozer wrote more than 40 books, including The Knowledge of the Holy, which explores the attributes of God. His literary legacy lies in his ability to combine theological depth with accessible, passionate prose, influencing generations of readers seeking authentic Christian devotion. He received honorary doctorates from Wheaton College and Houghton College.
