A Start in Life
Pierrotin, a coach driver on the route to L'Isle-Adam, anxiously awaits the arrival of his new coach, which he has ordered from Farry, Breilmann and Co. He is short of a thousand francs to pay for it and fears losing his deposit. He picks up a passenger, the Comte de Sérizy, and later transports a group of travelers including Schinner, Mistigris, and Georges Marest, who engage in lively conversation about their adventures. Pierrotin hopes for generous tips from his distinguished passengers to help cover his debt.
