# XLV: The Red Lad Scatters the Host of the Barons explained — The Sundering Flood

## What happens

Osberne returns to Longshaw after a fruitless search for Elfhild across the Sundering Flood, only to find that a great league of Barons, backed by the King and the Porte, has risen against Sir Godrick. Sir Godrick sends Osberne (now called the Red Lad) with 1,300 men to break up the northern hosting of the Barons' League. Osberne scatters their 6,000-strong force, destroys their supplies, and rides to join Sir Godrick on the eve of the main battle. The next day, the Barons' host is utterly overthrown. Sir Godrick then besieges and captures the Barons' strongholds, taking most of them captive. Peace is made on Sir Godrick's terms, and Osberne remains occupied with consolidating the victory, though his heart still aches for Elfhild.
